A World Away...So Close to Home!

Ravenwood is so uniquely different in the Hocking Hills (or anywhere else for that matter) you'll think you're in a little corner of Medieval England! Ravenwood Castle and Medieval Village offers enchanting Castle rooms, two 'villages' of picturesque cottages, (not your typical log cabins! ) and even two Gypsy Wagons for people who like to camp! We're very family-friendly And every accommodation in the Ravenwood Realm includes Breakfast at the Castle!

We'll use this blog to bring you news and special packages as they occur.

Our summer season has started at Ravenwood !

The Coach House Tea Room is now open 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Thursday ~ Sunday for lunch with a British flavour and afternoon Tea & Sweets! Reservations are not necessary unless you have a party larger than four people. There are a very occasional days when we have a large wedding group occupying the entire Realm that it is not open to the public. So just phone ahead if you like!

Now open through mid-November are Fairy Tale Cottages starting at $79 per weeknight night for up to four people, including breakfast at the Castle. These are quaintly decorated in Fairy Tale themes and are just right for families!

For those who like to camp, our two Gypsy Wagons offer "camping with comfort." They have two sleeping platforms with queen size air mattresses, lockable door and windows, electricity, picnic table, a ceiling fan, microwave oven & fridge, and the proverbial "path to the bath." These start at $55 per night, including breakfast at the Castle for up to four people!

Please note that because we are more than 10 minutes from the fire department, our insurance company does not permit open fires.

HISTORIC HOST NEWS:

We're just about finished with our newest historic lodging ~ Dunkle Schoolhouse just north of McArthur. We're very proud to have rescued this delightful little building which hosted it's last class of students in 1939! The interior is very authentic, and you can write messages to each other on the chalkboard, peruse quaintly vintage textbooks, sit at a double desk, or ring the teacher's bell to call class to order! It has a king bed, sitting area, and a kitchenette with fridge, microwave oven, and coffee maker. All the plumbing is "green" with low-flow faucets and toilet, and a tankless on-demand water heater. After using these here, you might even consider adding similar ones to your own home! We've added a wrap-around deck, but because we are using historic preservation guidelines, it doesn't actually touch the building. Within a week or two, you'll be able to see interior and new exterior photos on the web site http://www.historichost.com/ . The schoolhouse is near Lake Hope, the Moonville Tunnel and Rail Trail through the back road; and probably has the best, darkest, most open sky for star-gazing just up the hill! You can even walk to the county fairgrounds, a covered bridge, and a very old cemetery. Dunkle Schoolhouse joins our other two Hosts ~ Stairway House in Zaleski, and the Appalachian Quilt Cabin on the grounds at Fiddlestix.

Remember ~ your vacation in a Historic Host helps save

some of our Appalachian history and culture!

We'll tell you more about our historic lodging options in the next post. Meanwhile, see everything on our Castle web site: http://www.ravenwoodcastle.com/ . You can book online if you like, but we'd love to have you phone us so we can answer questions, and help you choose just the right room, cottage or historic lodging!
